The Good Hair EditGuide 03

Planning a bigger colour change

Bring the inspiration. Bring the history, too. A useful colour conversation starts with both the look you want and the hair you have now.

The short answer

For a major change, correction or uncertainty about your starting point, book a consultation before choosing a colour slot.

Tell the full hair story

Previous permanent colour, home colour, lightening, straightening and other chemical services can affect the options your stylist considers. Mention what you remember and when it happened—even if you can no longer see the original colour.

You do not need to know technical product names. Bring a photo or packaging information if you have it, and be clear where you are unsure.

Explain what you like in a reference

“This colour” can mean the brightness around the face, the depth at the roots, the contrast, or the overall tone. Choose a small number of references and identify the parts that matter most to you.

Talk about your own starting shade and texture alongside those references. Editorial photos and another person’s result are useful discussion tools, not a guarantee of the same outcome.

Agree on a realistic process

Major changes and colour corrections start with a consultation at Cameron & Moo. Depending on your starting point and hair condition, the plan may involve more than one appointment.

  • What is a realistic first-visit result?
  • Could the plan require additional appointments?
  • How much time and cost should I allow for each stage?
  • How will the colour grow out, and what upkeep will it need?
  • Should a haircut be included in this appointment?

Book the plan, not the photograph

Once the approach is clear, choose the specific service agreed with the salon. Avoid selecting a shorter familiar appointment just because it is the only opening you can see.

If timing or budget changes your decision, tell the stylist. It helps to discuss alternatives before committing to the next step.
